Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was an Indian actor, dancer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He was reportedly suffering from depression and is believed to have taken his own life. Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic demise has not only left his family, friends, and fans in a state of shock but has shaken Bollywood to its core.
His fans, globally are left angered, claiming that Sushant was not treated fairly in the industry that lead to his depression, Dharmendra Singh Doel, Actor, Producer and Politician, says ‘Indian Show Business is a cruel world and he can imagine the unbearable pain Rajput experienced’ His demise has prompted many actors to open-up about navigating the film industry which is infamous for favouring its own and shunning the outsiders who brave through apparent bullying within Bollywood circles. Following Sushant’s shocking demise several film personalities, have opened-up on the practice of nepotism in the film industry and how Rajput was pushed to the edge.
Restricted movement, during the Lockdown from the COVID-19 pandemic, could have also resulted in Rajput sinking deeper into depression. Feeling isolated, alone and trapped with so much pain, not knowing how to manage it.
Businessman, Film Producer and Philanthropist, Steve Bing and Father of Liz Hurley’s son, took his own life on the 22nd June 2020 by jumping of his 27th floor apartment in Los Angeles.
Reports suggest that the Bing, 55, took a drastic step to end his life, as he was suffering from depression because he had no people to talk to due to the coronavirus lockdown. Bing was the son of peter Bing, a doctor and philanthropist who specialised in public health, and grandson of Leo Bing, A New York real estate developer. Steve Bing inherited hundreds of millions of dollars from his grandfather when he turned 18.
Mental Health has become a silent killer globally, whereby people are taking drastic steps and ending their lives because the pain becomes unbearable for them. COVID-19 lockdown has had a massive impact on people with existing mental health disorders, that has sadly resulted in suicide.
Too often headlines announce the death of a beloved Celebrity or public figures. Even darker so, sometimes the death comes at the person’s own hands. Each one of these famous suicides have a unique personal story behind it, but many of them also have striking and sad similarities. Nearly all these celebrity suicides have featured mental health illness in some form.
Despite outward appearance, famous suicides like these show us that we can never know what another person is going through and sometimes not until it is too late. Suicide of famous people show that being successful does not prevent a person from feeling unfulfilled or unhappy. The importance of discussing Mental Illness now in order to remove the stigma surrounding it.
Suicide is a major health problem and the global suicide mortality is increasing each year, especially with young people. Suicide behaviour is intricately connected with Mental Health Disorder and carry an increased risk of suicide ideation, suicide attempts, and suicide.
There is lower risk of suicide behaviour during closely monitored long-term treatment of suicide patients, including treatment adherence is an important factor in medical suicide prevention.
Depressions is not always in dark rooms and crying endlessly. Sometimes it is getting up, going to work, or visiting your friends, smiling all day, then coming home to the quietness of your mind. Encouraging people to break the silence, by talking about their challenges. Let them know that asking for help is strength and they are not alone. Remind them that, we are stronger together, and there is always HOPE. Let them know that they are loved, appreciated.
It is important for people to be kind to others and to show love and respect. Stay connected by a call or a text message. It is that simple act, that will change a person’s feelings in seconds. By staying connected, you will be able to identify the highs and lows of a person. Society at large must identify signs of depression and act upon it by getting the person professional help.
