Prevention and Awareness Workshops
Schools
Knowledge on violence and abuse is POWER. While significant emphasis is often placed on helping children succeed academically and in sports, it is just as important to ensure they are equipped to be LIFE SMART. These educational workshops offer a safe environment for individuals who have experienced abuse or trauma, particularly in the context of domestic violence and abuse, to gain a deeper understanding of those experiences and reflect on their impact both in the past and present.
The workshops aim to raise awareness of survivors’ strengths and resilience, highlight the importance of coping strategies, and explain how the brain responds to stress. I’d like to point out that research indicates that recovery from these experiences is possible. Participants receive valuable information to build on their existing strengths, better understand their reactions and coping mechanisms, and identify strategies to make positive changes in their lives.
Additionally, the workshops guide participants in finding and engaging with effective support networks, accessing helpful resources, and implementing self-care strategies, all of which contribute to participants’ overall well-being and recovery journey.
Corporate
Prevention and Awareness Workshops in corporate settings aim to foster a safer and more supportive work environment. These workshops focus on educating employees about the realities of violence and abuse, emphasising the importance of awareness and resilience within the workplace. Participants are given opportunities to learn about coping mechanisms, the effects of stress on the brain, and ways to build on strengths to manage challenging circumstances.
The sessions also guide access to support networks and resources, as well as the implementation of self-care strategies. By equipping employees with practical tools and knowledge, the workshops contribute to overall well-being and help cultivate a more inclusive and empathetic corporate culture. Group discussions are included, but sharing personal experiences is optional and not encouraged to ensure a safe space for everyone.
Public
Prevention and Awareness Workshops for the public are designed to empower individuals with essential knowledge about violence and abuse. These sessions provide a supportive environment where participants can deepen their understanding of trauma, reflect on how it has affected their lives, and recognise the importance of resilience and coping strategies. The workshops also highlight the impact that stress can have on the brain, and share evidence that recovery is achievable.
During the workshops, participants receive practical information to help them build on their strengths and better understand their own coping mechanisms. They are introduced to strategies for making positive changes and are encouraged to identify and access support networks and resources. The workshops also focus on implementing self-care practices, all of which contribute to the participants’ overall well-being and journey toward recovery.
These workshops are educational, focusing on personal safety, self-care, and support, rather than therapeutic intervention. Group discussions may be held, but sharing personal stories is always optional, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all attendees.
By attending this workshop, participants will gain comprehensive knowledge and practical skills that support their personal growth and recovery journey. The following core areas are addressed:
- Participants will develop an understanding of trauma and abuse, recognising how common these experiences are and how they may be connected to ongoing challenges in areas such as relationships, self-esteem, health, and overall wellbeing.
- The workshop provides opportunities to identify and reflect on personal strengths, examining the coping mechanisms used in childhood, those currently in use, and considering potential positive changes for the future.
- Participants will gain insight into the brain and the biological effects of stress, learning about triggers and acquiring practical tips for recognising and managing these triggers more effectively.
- The sessions will explore a variety of strategies designed to help individuals manage their emotions and levels of arousal in different situations.
- Finally, participants will learn where and how to seek help, discover self-care practices, develop healthy interactions with loved ones and others, and explore the possibilities for recovery and improved well-being.
Educational Approach and Group Discussion
The workshops are designed to be educational, focusing on key aspects such as personal safety, self-care, and support. Unlike therapeutic interventions, these sessions aim to equip participants with knowledge and practical strategies rather than providing therapy. During the workshops, group discussions may take place to facilitate learning and peer support. However, speaking in these discussions is entirely optional, and participants are not encouraged or required to share personal stories, ensuring a respectful and safe environment for everyone involved.
