In April 2022, KwaZulu Natal was hard hit by one of the deadliest natural disasters since the 1987 floods, Heavy rainstorm and flash floods left thousands homeless and over three hundred people dead.
Critical infrastructure, including roads, transportation, communications, electrical, and water supply was affected. Technical teams are working round the clock to restore services. Some Power Stations in eThekwini was not accessible due to the floods.
Rescue teams had to evacuate people in areas that experienced mudslides, flooding, and collapse of infrastructure.
It was heart-warming to see our President, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa visiting families affected by the floods and who lost loved ones. Mr Ramaphosa pleaded to the public at large for humanitarian aid.
We are expecting more rainfall over the next few days which will affect the work of technicians who are working to relentlessly to restore electricity and other services. We urge people to be safe.
Hope to heal Foundation extends our deepest condolences to families who have lost loved ones.
